Showcase v1 #87 featuring Firehair, 1969 - Just barely surviving a mountain lion attack, Firehair stumbles onto a strangely sinister shaman. His black magic begins to torture the indian brave, unleashing mystical creatures and shifting landscapes.
Joe Kubert's two-page spread of Firehair at a canyon's edge perfectly captures the vastness of the setting. Although there are many fine panels and pages, the second spread on pages 12-13 overtakes them all. Kubert depicts a towering, coyote-headed god emerging from cavernous mists, a spectacular drawing that is the finest work of the entire series. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Ken Barr. This is 15 of 19
