The Frogmen #5 - Alex Toth art

The Frogmen #5
The Frogmen v1 #5, 1963 - Hired by a European gentleman, the pair of professional divers explore the waters of France, Spain and Norway. Alex Toth's typically loose pencils are smoothed over by the able brushwork of Mike Peppe. The opening splash page is less than impressive, but it's mostly offset by the many large, roomy panels (see interior page below). The pacing and layouts are thoughtfully planned, especially the first half of the story. Toth also illustrates Boy of the Pacific, a back-up tale that's equally well done. The artist seems to have inked his own pencils in this silver age comic. This is 1 of 1 Frogmen issues by Toth.
