Joe Kubert
Tarzan v1 #207, 1972 - This first DC issue continues from the previous long-running Dell/Gold Key series. Joe Kubert starts anew with an adaptation of Tarzan’s origin. Unlike the streamlined version of Russ Manning, Kubert brings the story and character back to its savage roots with his loose, impressionistic style. His African jungle is a brutal, unforgiving place teeming with danger. The powerful cover reinforces this, depicting Tarzan fighting for his life against a great ape. Tarzan, among others, would become one of Kubert's signature characters. Another Edgar Rice Burroughs creation, John Carter Warlord of Mars, begins as a back up. This story was later reprinted in Limited Collectors' Edition #C-22. Other artists in this comic include Murphy Anderson.
