Phantom Lady #17 - Matt Baker art & cover

Matt Baker
Phantom Lady v1 #17, 1948 - The owner of a small cafe is threatened into a protection racket. Phantom Lady arrives too late to prevent her death, but vows to bring her killers to justice. Matt Baker tales every opportunity to show off the heroine's figure, even if he has to extend beyond the panels (see interior page below). This issue is the most sought-after of the series, solely due to Baker's suggestive "headlights" cover. Exquisitely drawn, it's also a fine example of golden age "good girl" art. Other artists in this issue include Rudy Palais. This is 5 of 10 Phantom Lady issues by Baker.
