Frank Brunner (1949-) - After studying at Manhattan's School of Art and Design, Brunner's first published work appeared in the 1969 comic magazine Web of Horror #3. In the subsequent decade, the artist worked almost exclusively for Marvel, revitalizing Doctor Strange and popularizing Howard the Duck. He also produced several bronze age covers for horror, superhero, jungle and sword-and-sorcery comics. Brunner generously applied smooth, flowing brushwork to his illustrations, often darkening the mood and setting. His style nonetheless added a richness to every comic book he worked on.
