Dark Horse Presents v1 #55, 1991 - Begin. Other artists in this issue include Leaving a trail of broken bones and bloody faces, Marv finally discovers who ordered the hit on his favorite hooker.
Frank Miller's Sin City takes prominence, occupying the radial cover design and leading this issue. On the first page, Marv's shadow cast upon a brick wall is one of the artist's best openings. Even more impactful is the war Miller blends art and typography on the final page. This episode was later reprinted in the
Sin City trade paperback. In
John Byrne's story, the Next Men awaken to a different reality while maintaining their super powers. As typical for the artist, the artwork is confidently rendered and well sequenced. This is 2 of 4
Dark Horse Presents issues by
Byrne and 5 of 13 Dark Horse Presents issues by
Miller.
