Jack Kirby |
House of Mystery v1 #85, 1959 - Similar to his work in
Tales of Suspense and
Tales to Astonish,
Jack Kirby chronicles the discovery of giant monolithic sculptures on an uncharted isle. Obviously inspired by the statues of Easter Island, the artist makes these behemoths more animated and threatening. The inks, possibly by Kirby himself, are perfectly suited to the expressionistic style of the pencils. Both cover and story art are splendid examples of his pre-Marvel superhero work. This story was later reprinted in
DC Special #11. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jim Mooney and Bill Ely. This is 11 of 11
