Two-Fisted Tales v1 #33, 1953 -
Wally Wood opens with a stunning cover, capturing a heroic signal corpsman under fire. Inside, the artist tells of the bombing of Nagasaki and its effects on one Japanese family. Wood's brushwork throughout is exceptional, using textural effects for atmospheric purposes. Scenes of the actual bomb blast are visualized in sobering black and white. In
Joe Kubert's tale, two men partner up for some dangerous pearl diving off the Australian coast. In keeping with EC's standards, the artwork seems realistic and well-researched. These stories were later reprinted in
Two-Fisted Tales v2 #16. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jack Davis and John Severin. This is 2 of 2
