Detective Comics #437 - Walt Simonson art

Detective Comics v1 #437, 1973 - Interpol agent Christine St. Clair flies to Nepal in search of a figure known only as Manhunter. Beginning with this issue, the ongoing back-up series would catapult artist Walt Simonson into the industry spotlight. His linework is eclectic and distinctive, enhanced by his excellent pacing and layouts. Manhunter's entry into a forbidden monastery (see interior page below) is drawn in near-silence. The images tells the story with precision and clarity. With this new bronze age version of Manhunter, Simonson establishes his first signature character. This story was later reprinted in Manhunter #1 and Manhunter Special Edition #1. Other artists in this issue include Jim Aparo (cover). This is number 1 of 11 Detective Comics issues with Simonson art and/or covers.
