Valor v1 #1, 1955 - Wally Wood's majestic cover accompanies his story inside: three hundred years after his death, King Arthur returns to claim England's throne. The artwork depicts knights, maidens, villages and castles in all their medieval splendor. In Al Williamson's tale of ancient Rome, a captain falls in love with a Greek slave girl, incurring the wrath of the Empress. The drawings are sophisticated and sensitive, despite the small panels and abundant dialogue. Both Williamson and Wood contribute visually striking stories later reprinted in Valor v2 #1. This issue also includes artwork by Bernie Krigstein and Graham Ingels. - - - - - - - - - -
