Detective Comics #397 - Neal Adams art & cover

Detective Comics #397 dc Batman comic book cover art by Neal Adams
Neal Adams
Detective Comics v1 #397, 1970 - A painting's theft leads Batman to a millionaire recluse, who pines for a lost love from his youth. There are vague references to the film Citizen Kane, but only in passing. Neal Adams does a capable job in capturing the rich man's delusionary state. His depictions of the fortress-like mansion, with its cavernous interiors and contents, is simply superlative. Adams' ghostly cover is equally compelling. This story was later reprinted in Limited Collectors' Edition #C-44. Other artists in this issue include Murphy Anderson and Gil Kane. See today's posts or more Adams or Detective Comics issues.
