The Texan #14 - Matt Baker art & cover

Matt Baker
The Texan v1 #14, 1951 - On this Matt Baker cover, an indian attack on a covered wagon is interrupted by a band of rescuers appearing just over the ridge. While not artfully composed, Baker makes up for it inside with three engagingly drawn stories. In "Death's Roundup", the artist uses larger panels than usual, giving it more weight and importance. From the terrific opening splash to the depiction of an old western town (page 7), Baker shows an increasing confidence with the western genre. This is number 10 of 11 Texan issues with Baker art and/or covers.
