The Texan #8 - Matt Baker art & cover

Matt Baker golden age 1950s st. john western comic book cover art - Texan #8
Matt Baker
The Texan v1 #8, 1950 - In both Matt Baker stories, pages are heavily worded and panels are overly crowded. The opening splash of the first tale, however, is unique in its scale and complexity of layout. A frontier woman comes to the aid a young indian. Her hand is outstretched, pointing toward the violent scene. Baker lovingly details her dress, increasing the sense of movement. His cover of a violent kidnapping seems a bit busy yet adequately drawn. Other artists in this golden age western comic include George Tuska. This is 5 of 11 Texan issues by Baker. /// Baker gallery
