Champions #13 |
The Champions v1 #13, 1977 - An old foe of Hercules seeks revenge, forcing the Champions to battle a variety of mystical threats.
John Byrne maintains his artistic standards, delivering his third terrific effort on the series. The artist conveys not only the fist-fighting action, but effectively hints at the reality behind the illusion with the book-ended panels on pages 16-17. Black Goliath finds himself in a clash with giant robots, one of Byrne's artistic specialties (see interior page below). Inker Bob Layton seems to have hit his stride on the series, as evidenced on the excellent opening splash. This bronze age comic includes cover art by Dave Cockrum and Al Milgrom. This is 3 of 6

This is my favorite Champions issue, and one of my all time favorite comics, period. A nearly perfect issue.
Yeah, although the Dave Cockrum cover is far from his best.
