Secrets of Haunted House #41 - Steve Ditko art, Joe Kubert cover

Secrets of Haunted House #41, 1981 - Steve Ditko does an adequate job on a tale about a convict and his girlfriend breaking into an abandoned house. In general, the art appears rushed but meets expectations. Oddly enough, some of Ditko's final scenes border on the phallic. Joe Kubert's two-tiered cover is brightly colored yet adequate. Other artists in this issue include Greg LaRocque, Vince Colletta, Noly Zamora, Charkes Nicholas, Dan Spiegle and John Celardo. This is number 3 of 4 Secrets of Haunted House issues with Ditko art and/or covers. I particularly like the two vertical panels; the perspective of the crook kicking open the door is effective.

I have a love/hate relationship with Ditko's late bronze age works, particularly his DC stuff. I've been pleasantly surprised by some of his early 1970s Charlton issues though. I plan on posting his 1950s and 1960s works in the near term.
