Batman: The Cult #2 - Bernie Wrightson art & cover

Bernie Wrightson
Batman: The Cult v1 #2, 1988 - The Batman falls under the influence of Deacon Blackfire, a preacher waging war on Gotham's criminals. Bernie Wrightson does an impressive job drawing the hero's hallucinatory imaginings. Juxtaposed with more violent scenes (see interior page below), the story takes on an unreal atmosphere. The most unnerving page features Robin in an underground sewer, attacked by a colony of rats. The issue closes with a series of small, carefully paced panels, leading up to a horrific double page spread. This is number 2 of 4 Batman The Cult issues with Wrightson art and/or covers.
