Green Lantern v2 #171 - Alex Toth art

Green Lantern v2 #171 dc comic book cover art by Gil Kane
Green Lantern v2 #171, 1983 - One of a handful of 1980s issues by Alex Toth, this tale benefits from two double page spreads. Overall, his thick lines (reinforced by inker Terry Austin) add a graphic quality that flattens the picture plane. There is less finesse, but the page layouts are more daring. Page seven (see interior page below) is especially noteworthy with its organic, flowing design. Arguably, the artwork looks a tad dated but no less enjoyable. Other artists in this issue include Dave Gibbons and Gil Kane (cover). This is number 1 of 1 Green Lantern v2 issues with Toth art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Toth or Green Lantern issues. See also this blog's Toth checklist.
