Journey Into Mystery #54 - Al Williamson, Steve Ditko art, Jack Kirby cover

Jack Kirby
Journey Into Mystery v1 #54, 1957 - This bombastic cover by Jack Kirby is typical of his silver age monster-themed comics. As odd looking as the creature is, it bears no resemblance to the Steve Ditko story inside (see interior page below). His drawings are far more ape-like and approachable in style. Al Williamson chronicles the tale of a homely man in a futuristic city. Though empathic, the artist fills the pages with his creative costume and architecture designs. Other artists in this issue include Joe Sinnott and John Severin. This is 4 of 4 Journey Into Mystery issues by Williamson, 5 of 76 Journey Into Mystery issues by Kirby and 7 of 49 Journey Into Mystery issues by Ditko.
