Space 1999 #6 - John Byrne art & cover

Space 1999 #6, 1976 - John Byrne's final issue also happens to be his most ambitious work on the title. Four full splash pages occur in the first half of the story. Page five is awash in textured halftones, beautifully enhancing an otherwise standard layout. There is a clever sequence of vertical panels (pages 14-15, see interior page above), simulating the countdown of seconds before the lead character runs out of air. Byrne also seems to have provided illustrations for a text story, perhaps modified from a previous issue. This is number 4 of 4 Space 1999 issues with Byrne art and/or covers.
