Strange Tales #156 - Jim Steranko art

Strange Tales v1 #156 featuring Nick Fury & Doctor Strange, 1967 - Nick Fury infiltrates the enemy's headquarters on Hydra Island, discovering one of his oldest foes has returned. Jim Steranko's inaccurate perspective on the opening splash gives a false sense of scale, yet the drawing itself is reminiscent of 1950s EC comics. Most interesting are the pages showing Hydra HQ, drawn in the artist's distinctive surreal architecture (culminating on page 8). The story ends with an arresting two page spread, effectively conveying the evil organization's vast numbers. Other artists in this issue include Marie Severin. This is number 6 of 18 Strange Tales issues with Steranko art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Steranko, Nick Fury, Doctor Strange or Strange Tales issues.
