Neal Adams |
House of Mystery v1 #186, 1970 - This unassuming bronze age issue boasts superlative art by both Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson. The cover, featuring children around a statue of Pan, is thematically consistent with others in the same series. Adams' story of a lonely little girl and her mythical companion is a masterpiece. When her idyllic surroundings turn nightmarish, the artwork captures the tone and details perfectly. Similarly, Wrightson's tale of an Egyptian cat is an equally breathtaking piece of work (see interior page below). His double page spread displays an unforgettable transformation from feline to Egyptian princess. This story was later reprinted in Welcome Back to the House of Mystery #1 and Masterworks Series of Great Comic Book Artists #3. "Nightmare" was reprinted in Welcome Back to the House of Mystery #1, DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #17 and both stories later appeared in Limited Collectors' Edition #C-23. This is 12 of 26 House of Mystery issues by Adams and 5 of 28 House of Mystery issues by Wrightson. /// Top 10 Adams comics / Top 10 Wrightson comics
