7. Witching Hour v1 #14, 1971 - Deviating from its usual mystery stories, this special issue takes on a science fiction-theme. In Al Williamson's tale, three spacemen on the run from authorities encounter a haunted house floating in space. His drawings are meticulously detailed and smartly laid out. Carlos Garzon's inks are loose but add texture and definition (see interior page below). The result is a sci-fi horror tale that's both stunning and contemporary. Jeff Jones contributes a story that's simple and minimal, suggesting the quiet and vastness of deep space. Neal Adams' cover appears to re-use a Williamson interior panel, but the additional witches add little to improve the scene. This is 8 of 8 Witching Hour issues by Adams, 1 of 1 Witching Hour issues by Jones and 1 of 1 Witching Hour issues by Williamson. /// Top 10 Williamson comics
