1. (Monster of) Frankenstein v4 #2, 1973 - Continuing the adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic, Mike Ploog delivers his most potent interpretation yet. In his opening splash page, a massive sailing ship catches fire while churning in an angry sea. The bulk of the story is told in flashback, as the captain recalls the monster's escape from Frankenstein's lab and his subsequent contact with the outside world (see interior page shown below). The narrative style of Ploog's artwork is beautifully executed and slightly reminiscent of earlier adaptations in Classics Illustrated. Additionally, Ploog's intriguing cover only hints at the frightening image of the monster's mate on pages 21-22. This is arguably his finest work. This is 2 of 6 Frankenstein issues by Ploog. /// Top 10 Ploog comics / Ploog gallery
