Pep Comics v1 #1, 1940 - Predating Captain America Comics #1 by a year, the Shield makes his debut as the first patriotic hero of the golden age. Joe Higgins is an FBI agent who also takes on special assignments in a flag-themed costume. Also making their first appearances in separate stories: the Comet, a young scientist who can disintegrate objects with his eyes and the Falcon, a colorful crimefighter who protects freedom of the press. Various characters in different genres are introduced in their own tales, forgettable as they are. The Shield story is written by Harry Shorten and drawn by Irv Novick, the Comet by Jack Cole and the Falcon by Jack Binder.- - - - - - - - - -
