Detective Comics #492 |
Detective Comics v1 #492, 1980 - In a creative twist, two separate tales cross over into one overarching storyline. Batgirl calls it quits after a close call with death, while Batman hunts down her would-be killer.
Don Newton, artist on both stories, delivers his best work yet on the series. From the somber opening splash to the darkened action scenes, "Vengeance Trail" is beautifully illustrated. While well drawn, the second feature doesn't match the same degree of craftsmanship. Dan Adkins' superb inking continues to make significant contributions. This story was later reprinted in
Tales of the Batman: Don Newton #1. Other artists in this issue include Romeo Tanghal, Charles Nicholas, Bob Oksner and Bob Smith. Cover by Jim Aparo. This is 12 of 39
