Fear #19
(Adventures into) Fear v1 #19, 1974 - When fantasy and reality begin to overlap, a young sorceress named Jennifer Kale is captured during a battle between barbarians, soldiers and demons. The Man-Thing is suddenly allied with the sword-wielding Korrek and a talking, cigar-chomping duck. Making his debut, Howard the Duck appears in six panels toward the story's end. In creating the character, writer Steve Gerber was clearly influenced by Carl Barks' Donald Duck. Drawn by Val Mayerick and Sal Trapani, this story was later reprinted in Marvel Treasury #12. Cover by Gil Kane. Howard the Duck would soon debut his own self-titled series. /// key 1st appearance Howard the Duck
