Journey into Mystery v1 #85, 1962 - Loki escapes from his tree-bound prison through trickery, subsequently traveling to Earth to challenge Thor. Aside from the opening splash, Jack Kirby's efforts are fairly mediocre. While his drawings struggle, Dick Ayers inks are reliably consistent. Kirby's cover also has far too much text, diminishing this new villain. This Stan Lee story was later reprinted in Journey into Mystery annual #1. Steve Ditko's tale of a planetary explorer better meets expectations and opens with an intriguing splash page. Other artists in this silver age comic include Don Heck. - - - - - - - - - -
