Epic Illustrated v1 #6, 1981 - Leaving his comrades temporarily, Aknaton phases into another dimension to seek consul with his god. To distinguish between realities, Jim Starlin uses marbled papers for the backgrounds and for the deity itself. The swirling, undulating colors add a hypnotic sense of movement. I've never seen this particular effect used before, but it complements the artist's kinetic style. The exciting, tentacle-laden cover is Neal Adams' first but not last effort on the series. Other artists in this copper age science fiction magazine include Ken Steacy. This is 1 of 2
