All-American Comics v1 #100, 1948 - With interest in superheroes waning, DC introduces a new character to lead this long running series. Johnny Tane is only a mild-manned school teacher, but a bit of black hair dye transforms him into a western hero. As Johnny Thunder, he saves a large group of migrating cattle from saboteurs. Perhaps due to the change in genre, Alex Toth seems to struggle with both faces and figures throughout the story. Thankfully, his work improves with subsequent issues. Note how this hero replaces an earlier version tied to the Justice Society. Other artists in this 100th issue include Irwin Hasen. This is 7 of 9 All-American Comics issues by Toth. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover Johnny Thunder, Milestone issue
