Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #93 |
Walt Disney's Comics and Stories v1 #93, 1948 - Competing for the prize in the first-to-the-moon race, two scientists convince Donald Duck to be their unwitting pilot. This theme of space exploration is not uncommon among Carl Barks tales, but this appears to be his earliest. The craftsmanship of his drawings and layouts are excellent for this time period, detailing many of the scenes (such as the lunar creature and landscapes). His drawing and composition of the competing rocket on page one is particularly impressive. This story was later reprinted in Donald Duck Adventures #5. Other artists in this golden age issue include Paul Murry. Cover by Walt Kelly. This is 62 of 280 Walt Disney's Comics and Stories issues by Barks.
