Fantastic Four #13 - Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko art, Kirby cover + 1st Watcher, Red Ghost

Jack Kirby
Fantastic Four v1 #13, 1963 - Landing on the moon at the same time but for different reasons, the super quartet encounter the Red Ghost and his super apes for the first time. In the ensuing battle, the Watcher makes himself and his mission known. Jack Kirby's cover seems almost amateurish and Don Heck's weak inking doesn't help. The story art fares better, marking an early superhero-themed collaboration between Kirby and Steve Ditko. His inking is similarly tepid on certain pages. However, this is partially offset by large detailed panels interspersed throughout (see interior page below). The Red Ghost makes his first appearance in this silver age comic. This is 13 of 116 Fantastic Four issues by Kirby. /// key 1st appearance Watcher, Red Ghost
