New Romances v1 #17, 1953 - In the first of two
Alex Toth stories, a young woman covets the life of her girlfriend, who marries a successful but demanding businessman. The title page is outstanding in design and drawing, displaying emotion and detail within an unframed, open panel (see interior page below). Within the precise page layouts, the artist uses plenty of close-ups, drawing the reader in closer to the characters, Toth's second tale, about an ambitious salesgirl, is shorter in length, but seems less careful in its drawings and compositions (especially the last two pages). Other artists in this golden age comic include John Celardo. This is 5 of 8
