2001: A Space Odyssey v1 #1, 1976 - Due to the success of the movie treasury edition, Jack Kirby expands upon the ideas from the Stanley Kubrick film with this first issue. Early man's invention of the first deadly weapon segues into the far future, where two astronauts are stranded on an asteroid. While Kirby's cover is less than adequate, his story pages shine. From his full page splash of the Miocene Age to later scenes of alien ruins, the artist sets the tone for the rest of the series.
