Alpha Flight v1 #6, 1984 - Accidentally freed by the digging of an oil rig, one of the ancient beasts of Native American legend is resurrected. Snowbird, Alpha Flight's most mysterious member, must contain him or die trying. John Byrne's minimal cover foreshadows his artwork inside. During a battle within a snowstorm, the artist omits all imagery, relying on the narration, dialogue and sound effects to tell the story. The approach is clever and admittedly effective (see interior page below). Byrne eventually transitions back into conventional artwork, but deserves kudos for experimentation. A separate shorter tale concludes a two-part origin of Shaman. This is 6 of 30
