Eerie Tales #1 |
9. Eerie Tales v1 #1, 1959 - Continuing the tradition of EC horror comics, this magazine series features an array of excellent artwork. The best of these is "Lower Than Hell", the tale of a lowly miner and what he would do to impress his beautiful girlfriend. Drawn by Al Williamson, the pages reveal a high level of craft and sophistication. Large, roomy panels throughout contain precise and meticulous detail (see interior page below). Gray tones are added to increase depth of the stark black and white images. Toward the end of the golden age, Williamson proves himself among the best artists in comics. This issue also includes artwork by Bob Powell, Angelo Torres and Gray Morrow. This is 1 of 1 Eerie Tales issues by Williamson. /// key 1st issue / Top 10 Williamson comics
