Unusual Tales #26 - Steve Ditko art & cover

Steve Ditko
Unusual Tales v1 #26, 1961 - Obsessed with traveling at the fastest speed known to man, pilot Jonathan Smith builds a rocket plane capable of going one hundred thousand miles per hour. One of his less impressive works of the era, Steve Ditko's drawings are somewhat hurried and sloppy. Many backgrounds are either minimal or empty. Speed is the story's central theme, yet even the opening page seems unexciting and static. Ditko's best layout appears above, yet below his usual standards. The cover also repurposes some panel art from the interiors. Other artists in this silver age comic include Sal Trapani. This is 15 of 18 Unusual Tales issues by Ditko.
