Foxhole v1 #2, 1954 - The garish color palette of this Jack Kirby cover doesn't appear to detract from the overall aesthetic. An American GI leaps into a foxhole, his bayonet moments away from plunging into his enemy. Along with the colors, the scene's tension is heightened by the titled horizon line. Inside, two Kirby stories outperform the rest of the book. The first, set during the Korean War, follows a patrol as they survey the countryside and the second chronicles a tailgunner's job during WWII. Both are impeccably drawn but the latter tale a slightly better. Other artists in this issue include Bill Draut. This is 2 of 6
