Man of Steel v1 #1, 1986 - John Byrne takes on Superman in this retelling of his origin and early years at Smallville. While adhering to tradition, the story adds more details and new revelations. Newly transitioning from Marvel to DC, the artist employs more frequent large panels and full page splashes (four in this case). The drawings are more detailed and delicate, aided by Dick Giordano’s seasoned inking. Byrne’s cover design is adequate but a step down from the interiors.
