Western Roundup v1 #21, 1958 - Two Russ Manning stories reside in this giant Dell western comic. In the first, Dale Evans encounters a man who uses a tree-planting ruse to transport his hidden gold. Similarly, Manning's second tale features Johnny Mack Brown investigating a dead gold miner and his accused murderer. The artwork in both is more than capable, using high contrast and shadows to hold readers' interest (see interior page below). Multiple viewpoints and varying panels also contribute to these admirable works. Given that Manning did many more Dale Evans tales, the Johnny Mack Brown story stands out due to its novelty.
