X-Men #6 - Jack Kirby art & cover

Jack Kirby
X-Men v1 #6, 1964 - Beating the X-men to the punch, Magneto tries to recruit the regal Sub-mariner into joining his cause. Jack Kirby's cover puts emphasis on the series guest, squeezing the remaining characters into confined spaces. His story art is better, filled with frequent and frenetic action. Despite this, Kirby's best work is the opening splash, presenting the heroes out of costume at the dinner table. The more mundane setting is impeccably designed and a marked contrast to the rest of the book. Also included is a Cyclops pin-up that falls short of expectations. This silver age story was later reprinted in Amazing Adventures v4 #12. This is 6 of 17 X-men issues by Kirby.
