Fightin' Marines #9 - Matt Baker art & cover

 Matt Baker
Fightin' Marines v1 #9, 1952Matt Baker's main cover scene lacks depth and hierarchy, affecting the entire design. His interior art is much better, chronicling the arrival of a Carmen Miranda-like beauty on the army base. Canteen Kate, needing a quonset, devises a plan to get it with the performer's help. Beautifully drawn and tastefully humorous (see interior page below), this is Baker's last Canteen Kate story on the series. Other artists in this golden age war comic include Gene Colan. This is 9 of 11 Fightin' Marines issues by Baker. /// Baker gallery
