Aces High #5 |
Aces High v1 #5, 1955 - Fighting the Japanese over China, an American fighter pilot experiences fear and anxiety for the first time over an upcoming event. Told in flashback, Wally Wood recounts the pilot's numerous battles and brushes with death. Pages 2-5 (including the interior page below) are exceptional in their depictions of WWII aerial dogfights. The amorphous panel borders (used to indicate the pilot's memories) bring an unexpected airiness to the scenes. In his last issue, Wood does his finest contribution of the series. This story was later reprinted in
Aces High v2 #5. Other artists in this golden age comic include Bernard Krigstein, Jack Davis and George Evans. This is 5 of 5
Aces High issues by
Wood.
