Wally Wood |
Space Detective v1 #1, 1951 - Wearing no masks or disguises, a wealthy philanthropist and his secretary secretly fight crime as the Avenger and Teena. Confusingly, no one addresses him as
Space Detective in any of the stories, despite this being his first appearance.
Wally Wood's cover is merely adequate, giving way to his superb intro on the inside front cover. Subsequent stories are impressively drawn as the artist joins forces with Joe Orlando. Together, they create futuristic settings in often intricate detail. Spacecraft interiors, planetary landscapes, atomic explosions and more are boldly dramatic. Wood would quickly establish himself as a master of the science fiction genre. All three stories in this first issue were later reprinted in
Strange Planets #10. This issue also includes art by Warren Kremer. This is 1 of 2
