Jack Kirby |
Thor v1 #157, 1968 - The monstrous Mangog bears down on Asgard, intent on destroying the fabled realm and its mythical residents.
Jack Kirby's art conveys the heroic struggles of Thor and his comrades, even as impending doom nears. On page eight, an almost infinite number of Asgardian warriors is pictured, led by Balder the Brave. Perhaps most gripping is Kirby's cover, depicting Thor in the clutches of a massive claw. The image is powerful, merely suggesting Mangog's enormous size. This silver age story was later reprinted in
Marvel Treasury Edition #10. This is 32 of 54
Thor issues by
Kirby.
