Unearthly Spectaculars #2 |
Unearthly Spectaculars v1 #2 starring Jack Q Frost, 1966 - Although two
Al Williamson stories reside in this issue, only "Clawfang the Barbarian" sees print for the first time. Exquisitely drawn, the artist capably demonstrates a mastery of light and shade. The pages are wonderfully detailed, juxtaposing the primitive with the technological. This story was later reprinted in the book
Al Williamson Forbidden Worlds. The shorter "Clawfang Introduction" excerpt was published only months earlier in
Thrill-O-Rama #2.
Wally Wood contributes two stories: a humorous parody of super-heroes and the more typical sci-fi tale of an astronaut landing on a far-flung planet. Both are competently drawn, despite their differences in tone and genre. Other artists in this silver age comic include Gil Kane, Mike Sekowsky and Jack Sparling. This is 1 of 1
