Black Fury #16 |
Black Fury v1 #16, 1958 -
Steve Ditko illustrates three Black Fury tales, all done in a minimalist style that cries out for more detail. The second story, "The Canyon of Little Horses", is marginally better but suffers from the same sparse lines and incomplete backgrounds. Ditko's opening panel mostly fails to establish a sense of scale: are the horses tiny or are the two men viewing them large? If not for the title, it could just have well been called "Two Giants in a Canyon". Unfortunately, this is not one of his better Charlton efforts. Other artists in this golden age comic include Maurice Whitman. Cover by Whitman. This is 1 of 3
