New Gods v1 #6, 1971 - Lightray and Orion lure back the massive sea creature that's been destroying massive ships. In doing so, they also force a confrontation with the grotesque humanoids. the Deep Six. Jack Kirby's drawings abound with movement and excitement, and not just the four splash pages. On a double-page spread, a merchant ship is violently torn apart by the leviathan, starting a oceanwide rampage. The following title page captures the aftermath, as a handful of victims witness Orion's emergence from water (see interior page below). With this breathtaking issue (and with the help of inker Mike Royer), Kirby delivers his best New Gods issue yet. Rounding out the issue are reprints from Adventure Comics #75 (Manhunter) and Real Fact Comics #1. "The Glory Boat" was later reprinted in New Gods v2 #3.
