Wally Wood |
Valor v1 #4, 1955 - On this aesthetically pleasing cover, a Roman centurion fends off a barbarian while on horseback.
Wally Wood focuses his inks on the foreground, strengthening the main figures while increasing depth. Additional warriors added to the left-hand margin add to the overall tone. My only criticism is the abruptly cropped sword held by the centurion. I would have preferred it extending beyond the box and in front of the masthead. This cover was later reprinted in
Valor v2 #4. This issue includes artwork by Joe Orlando, Reed Crandall, Bernie Krigstein and Graham Ingels. This is 3 of 4
Valor issues by
Wood.
