Secret Origins of Super-Heroes / DC Special Series #10, 1978 - This one shot issue features new stories featuring Dr. Fate, Black Canary and Lightray of the New Gods. Don Newton makes a logical choice for the latter tale, given that he was the New Gods series artist at the time. His page layouts are not dissimilar, with ample room for sweeping scenes (see interior page below). There is a benefit to continuity of style and his artwork meets expectations. This story was later reprinted in New Gods by Gerry Conway. Black Canary's background is told for the first time, recalling her policeman father's martial arts training and inspiring her to become a crimefighter. This Gerry Conway tale was drawn by Mike Nasser and Terry Austin. Cover by Jose Garcia Lopez.
