Its possible that Wood provided layouts for the Ditko story. In looking over many Tower stories the layouts follow a particular style, such as verticle panels that are similar to Wood solo stories. These layouts occur on artists as diverse as Dick Ayers and Paul Reinman.

That's entirely possible. As I understand it, he was the editor and artistic director at Tower, and created most of its characters. Jack Kirby provided hundreds of layouts for Marvel in the early 1960s so it's not unprecedented. Wood is one of the great ones, though in my opinion his strengths lie in his draftsmanship rather than his compositions.
